The original work, 70 m long and 50 cm wide, tells the story of the Norman conquest of England. It is a work of propaganda in favor of the Normans.
The Bayeux tapestry, originally an embroidery, was woven after the Conquest by English monks. The work was commissioned by Odon, Bishop of Bayeux and half-brother of William the Conqueror.
She is currently at the Centre Guillaume le Conquérant in Bayeux.
