Departure for the hunt, Pansu tapestry
The “Départ de chasse” tapestry is a reproduction of a hanging discovered in Belgian Flanders around 1500. The tapestry is now on display at the Hôtel de Cluny in Paris. This work of medieval art illustrates one of the favorite pastimes of the lords of the time: falcon hunting, also known at the time as “plaisante chasse” or “chasse de volerie”. It also shows a n lord, dressed in a long coat, on his pale horse, the latter riding away from the castle to go hunting.
