Mucha tapestry (1896)
Beautiful representation of Mucha’s painting as a tapestry woven on a Jacquard loom.
Mucha was the originator of Art Nouveau. He liked to work in series of panels. Alphonse Mucha thus executed the 4 seasons. Spring, summer, autumn and winter.
To represent winter, Mucha chose a beautiful young woman hiding a small bird in her hands, with the aim of warming it.
The figure is presented surrounded by snow and white, expressing the cold, but the viewer’s gaze is drawn to the young woman’s face.
