Description

A noble distraction and favorite pastime of the great and the good, hunting à courre is frequently depicted in 18th-century tapestries. Here, in the forest of Compiègne, horsemen prepare the pack while pickers sound their horns. This hunting scene is the work of Jean-Baptiste d’Oudry, a famous wildlife painter who was very close to nature.
